Eye Exams

Eye exams and contact lens evaluations are both important aspects of maintaining good eye health and visual acuity. While eye exams are essential for detecting and treating eye diseases and refractive errors, contact lens evaluations are specifically geared towards determining the best fit and type of contact lenses for an individual’s eyes. The patient will receive a prescription for glasses and/or contacts. Your glasses prescription and contact lens prescription are different, they are not interchangeable. You cannot use a glasses prescription for contacts or a contact lens prescription for glasses.

Our exams look at the complete health of the eye, not just a glasses or contact lens prescription. Some of the conditions we look for include: glaucoma, cataract, dry eye, blepharitis, retinal detachment, etc. Fundus photography and visual field testing are two technologies that our office utilizes to evaluate the health of the eye.

Monitoring Eye Health

Fundus photography and visual field testing are two essential tools in the field of optometry for assessing and monitoring eye health. Fundus photography involves capturing detailed images of the back of the eye, specifically the retina, optic disc, and blood vessels. These images help optometrists detect and track various eye conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and glaucoma. On the other hand, visual field testing measures the full horizontal and vertical range of what someone can see peripherally while looking straight ahead. By mapping out a patient’s visual field, optometrists can diagnose conditions, monitor disease progression, and assess the effectiveness of treatments. Both fundus photography and visual field testing play a vital role in the comprehensive evaluation of eye health and are valuable tools for preserving vision and preventing vision loss.

During a contact lens evaluation, your eye doctor will perform special tests to determine if contact lenses are a good fit for you. This includes evaluating the health of your cornea and the shape of your eye, as well as taking measurements of your iris, pupil, and tear film. After the evaluation, your doctor will fit you with contact lenses to ensure they fit correctly and comfortably.

Insurance

Medical insurance and vision plan coverage are not the same. Health insurance plans protect you against financial losses due to unexpected eye injuries or disease. Vision plans, on the other hand, are a wellness benefit designed to provide routine eye exams, contact lens evaluations, prescription eyewear and other vision-related services at a reduced cost.
